Positive Period Classroom at SMK Taman Sea

From Curiosity to Confidence

School  : SMK Taman Sea

Date : 12 November 2025

The library at SMK Taman Sea was filled with excitement, laughter, and meaningful conversations as 71 female students aged 13 participated in the Positive Period Classroom organised by Menses Health Organisation (MHO).

The workshop created a safe and comfortable girls-only space where students could openly learn, ask questions, and better understand their bodies without embarrassment or fear of judgment.

With support from PopoMama, the session was designed to make period education simple, relatable, and empowering. Instead of a typical lecture-style talk, the workshop encouraged active participation through interactive discussions, quizzes, and real-life examples that helped students connect the lessons to their everyday experiences.

The session began with an introduction to the female reproductive system, helping students understand how the menstrual cycle works and why periods happen. From there, students explored common symptoms experienced before and during period, including cramps, mood changes, fatigue, and emotional fluctuations. They also learned practical ways to track their menstrual cycles and recognise what is considered normal period health.

The workshop continued with discussions on period hygiene, including proper usage of sanitary products and the importance of disposing pads responsibly. Students were also introduced to the role of nutrition during period, learning how healthier food choices and important nutrients can support energy levels and reduce discomfort during their periods.

One of the most memorable moments of the session was the quiz activity, where students enthusiastically raised their hands to answer questions and share their thoughts. Small gifts were given to participants who answered correctly, creating a fun and lively atmosphere that kept everyone engaged throughout the program.

They were not alone in their experiences. Through the continued efforts of MHO and the generous support of PopoMama, the Positive Period Classroom continues to empower young girls with the knowledge, confidence, and support they deserve, helping build a future where period is understood with dignity and without stigma.
