Periods Aren’t Taboo Here: A School Workshop Reflection
School : SMK (P) Methodist Klang
Date : 19 January 2026
On 19 January 2026, the Menses Health Organisation (MHO) had the incredible opportunity to deliver our Positive Period Classroom (PPC) at SMK (P) Methodist Klang. We were warmly welcomed by 237 enthusiastic Form 1 students, each one eager to learn, ask questions, and help break down the stigma surrounding periods.
This PPC session was designed not only to educate, but also to inspire confidence, self-awareness, and open conversations about menstruation. The session covered key areas of female anatomy, period health, hygiene practices, and period-friendly nutrition, providing students with practical knowledge to better understand their bodies and care for themselves throughout their menstrual cycles.
One of the most exciting and memorable parts of the day was the hands-on menstrual product demonstration. For many students, this was their first time seeing menstrual cups, tampons, and menstrual discs up close. What began as shy giggles quickly transformed into active participation, curiosity, and thoughtful questions. Many students were fascinated by the range of products available and, for the first time, realised that they had options beyond the conventional sanitary pad.
The room truly came alive as the girls passed around samples, shared their thoughts, and asked honest questions such as:
“What if it leaks, how do I know I’m using it correctly?”
“How do I clean a menstrual cup?”
“Which product is best for beginners like us?”
Each question was addressed with care, helping to debunk common myths and encouraging the girls to speak openly and confidently. As the session progressed, the atmosphere shifted noticeably, from initial uncertainty to curiosity, confidence, and empowerment. What was once considered a “taboo” topic became a conversation they could engage in comfortably and without fear.
Beyond information sharing, the PPC at SMK (P) Methodist Klang created a supportive and judgement-free space where students felt seen, heard, and respected. By the end of the session, the girls walked away more informed, more confident, and more in control of their menstrual journey.
This impactful day was made possible with the generous support of PopoMama, who believes in empowering young girls through access to knowledge and period care. Their contribution helped us reach every girl in the room with the resources and understanding they deserve. Together, let’s talk period!
