Breaking the Silence: A Safe Space to Talk About Period
School : Kolej Vokasional Shah Alam
Date : 24th October 2025
On 24 October 2025, a meaningful and engaging period health workshop was successfully conducted. The Menses Health Organisation (MHO) brought together 80 female students aged 14 to 19 for a transformative Positive Period Classroom, which is a safe and supportive space where questions were encouraged, conversations flowed freely, and every girl felt seen, heard, and respected.
With the heartfelt support of PopoMama, the session grew into more than just an educational workshop. It became a journey of self-discovery, confidence, and empowerment. Throughout the day, participants explored essential topics such as period health, period hygiene, and the importance of nutrition during the menstrual cycle. The speakers shared practical knowledge, simple tips, and relatable experiences, helping students connect with the information in a meaningful way.
The workshop began by focusing on period health, educating participants on common symptoms before and during period, as well as helping them understand the difference between normal and abnormal period patterns. This was followed by a session on period hygiene, which highlighted proper menstrual product usage and the correct way to dispose of sanitary pads responsibly. Lastly, the nutrition segment guided students on how food choices can affect period comfort, encouraging them to limit foods that may trigger period pain, such as fried and spicy foods while highlighting the benefits of a balanced and nourishing diet.
What truly made the day unforgettable, however, was not just the knowledge shared, but the positive and uplifting atmosphere in the room. Laughter filled the space as myths were exposed, and moments of realization sparked confidence among the girls. They were not only learning about their bodies, but they were also learning to care for themselves with understanding and compassion.
By the end of the workshop, each girl walked away with more than information. They gained a stronger sense of self-awareness, confidence, and belonging, knowing that they are not alone in their menstrual journey. Thanks to PopoMama’s generous sponsorship, these young girls are now better equipped to embrace their natural cycles with knowledge, dignity, and courage.
This workshop was more than a one-day event. It marked the beginning of a lifelong journey toward body confidence, resilience, and sisterhood. Together, let’s talk, period!
