Breaking The Stigma : Period Education Workshop at SMK Taman Dato' Harun
Program Summary
School : SMK Taman Dato’ Harun
Date : 14th August 2024 & 27th August 2024
In both sessions, a total of 137 girls aged 13 and 14 years old from SMK Taman Dato Harun took part in a Period Education Workshop aimed at helping them better understand and manage their period. This workshop aimed to break the stigma surrounding periods by providing essential knowledge on period health, hygiene, and nutrition in a supportive and open environment.
This session featured presentations by nutritionists and dietitians covering three key areas: understanding the changes that occur in the body during periods and the symptoms that accompany them; essential hygiene tips for staying fresh and clean during periods, a topic often overlooked by many; and the importance of a balanced diet in easing period discomfort and improving overall well-being.
The girls participated in a hands-on demonstration of menstrual products including tampons, menstrual cups, and cloth pad where they explored different options and learned how to use them properly. To make session more engaging, quizzes with prizes were incorporated to reinforce the lessons and encourage active participation. The workshop concluded with a Q&A and sharing session providing a safe and supportive space for the girls to discuss their experiences and ask openly.
The event successfully equipped the girls with valuable knowledge and helped them feel more confident in managing their periods. Thank you, PopoMama, for sponsoring this session and supporting us to promote a better understanding of period health and reduce the stigma surrounding periods.
