Breaking The Taboo : Period Education Workshop at SK Petaling Jaya
School : SK Petaling Jaya
Date : 10th October 2024
On October 10, 2024, 105 girls aged 10 to 12 from SK Petaling Jaya attended a Period Education Workshop sponsored by PopoMama and Kotex Malaysia. The workshop aimed to break the stigma around periods and provide knowledge on period health, hygiene, and nutrition, helping the girls manage their periods with confidence.
The 90-minute session included presentations by nutritionists that focused on three key areas: understanding the bodily changes and accompanying symptoms during period; essential hygiene tips for staying fresh and clean during periods, which is often overlooked; and the significance of a balanced diet in alleviating period discomfort and enhancing overall well-being.
The girls learned about tampons, menstrual cups, and cloth pads through hands-on demonstrations. Quizzes with prizes encouraged participation and reinforced the lessons. The session ended with a Q&A where the girls could share experiences and ask questions.
The program effectively provided the girls with valuable knowledge and boosted their confidence in managing their periods. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance understanding of period health and to reduce the stigma associated with period.
