When Girls Understand Their Periods, Confidence Grows

Periods come with plenty of questions: Is this normal? Why does this happen? What should I do? On 16 June 2026, these were exactly the kinds of conversations we wanted to make easier. Menses Health Organisation (MHO) brought the Positive Period Classroom to SMK Seksyen 10 Kota Damansara, reaching 60 students with one simple goal, to help them understand their bodies and feel more confident about their periods.

The session took students through the menstrual journey, from understanding female anatomy and cycle tracking to period hygiene, nutrition and proper product disposal. Things became even more interesting when we introduced different menstrual products, including tampons, menstrual cups and discs. For some students, it was their first time seeing these products up close, turning uncertainty into curiosity and plenty of questions.

Then came one of the liveliest moments of the day — our period quiz! Hands went up, answers were called out and the classroom quickly filled with laughter and excitement. Through each question, students challenged common period myths, discovered new facts and learned that talking about menstruation doesn’t have to be awkward.

By the end of the workshop, we hoped the students left with more than just new knowledge. We wanted them to feel more prepared, more confident and more comfortable talking about their bodies. Because when young people are given the right information and a safe space to ask questions, period education can become a source of empowerment.

With the support of PopoMama, MHO continues to bring these conversations into more classrooms and reach more young people. This time, 60 students took another step towards greater period confidence — and this is only the beginning. Let’s talk period!
