Let's Talk Period: What This Girls-Only Workshop Taught Us
School : SMK Dato’ Ahmad Razali Ampang
Date : 28 October 2025
On 28 October 2025, a lively and eye-opening period health workshop took place. Organised by the Menses Health Organisation (MHO), the Positive Period Classroom welcomed 202 female students aged 13 to 14 into a warm, girls-only space where curiosity was encouraged, questions were never “awkward,” and everyone felt comfortable speaking up.
With the generous support of PopoMama, the session quickly became more than a typical school talk. It turned into a meaningful experience focused on self-understanding, confidence, and empowerment. Throughout the workshop, students learned about period health, period hygiene, and the important role nutrition plays during the menstrual cycle. The speakers shared easy-to-understand explanations, practical tips, and real-life examples that made learning both relatable and enjoyable.
The workshop kicked off with a discussion on period health, helping students recognise common symptoms before and during period and understand what is considered normal and when something might need attention. This was followed by a session on period hygiene, where students learned proper menstrual product use and the correct way to dispose of sanitary pads responsibly. The final section focused on period nutrition, guiding students to make smarter food choices by limiting foods that may worsen period pain, such as sugary drinks, fried and spicy foods, while encouraging balanced meals.
To keep the energy high, a quiz session was held, and students eagerly volunteered to answer questions, hands shooting up faster than expected! Small gifts were awarded to those who answered correctly, adding extra excitement and motivation to participate.
What truly made the workshop memorable, however, was not just the information shared, but the positive vibes in the room. Laughter filled the classroom as common period myths were cleared up, and “aha” moments sparked confidence among the girls. They weren’t just learning about period, they were learning how to care for their bodies with kindness and confidence. This workshop was more than just a one-hour event, and it was the first step toward lifelong body confidence, resilience, and sisterhood. Together, let’s talk period!
